First Post Since Feburary
So here’s the thing. I made this blog a while back for tech stuff. But I decided I’ll just post anything I feel like posting. Like on my youtube channel, and twitter.
Also you should follow me on twitter and Subscribe to my Youtube Channel. Well since there’s nothing new to really talk about I’ll just post about some things that have happened lately. First off I want a new guitar. Yup. A new guitar. Doesn’t have to be new, but new to me. I’m thinking about getting a 7-string of some kind, but I’m not sure. Other than that I also need new pickups for my Gibson WRC.
I’m looking forward to Halloween because this year I’m working at Hobbs Grove and that will be fun. Also October 31st (Halloween) is the one year anniversary since I started going out with my girlfriend Natalie.
I’ve thought about going back to school too. Not sure what to get into but I was thinking maybe Sales and Marketing. A few of my friends are surprised to hear it but I think I can do a good job and excel.
Well yeah this just proves that I really don’t know what to write about today. But I needed something to get me going again ha ha. Hopefully I will have something actually worthy of posting tomorrow or something.
Turn your USB Flash Drive into a Power House!
Ok.. so.. i think that title was used by PC mag for an article but oh well.
So, you have one of those flash drives laying around? Don’t know what to do with it really? Well if you go to school, let it be high school or college, or even work, this info could be really handy or even fun.
Basically the idea is to put small programs on your flash drive that let you do everyday, and not so everyday functions on a computer, but leaving NO TRACE in doing so.
so say that your at work, or your school and you need to get around a proxy or something. or maybe you want all your bookmarks and passwords saved? Or maybe you have a paper to do, and that computer doesn’t have your version of MS word. Well, this is what you do:
WHAT YOU NEED:
1. USB Flash Drive (I recommend 2gb or higher, and they are fairly cheap nowadays)
2. A Computer with a Internet Connection
THATS IT!
So you have two choices. You can choose to buy a U3 Compatible drive, or you can use Portable Apps
first I will talk about Portable apps, then U3 Drives. If you have a U3 Drive, skip the portable apps section
Portable Apps
Ok. first off go to PortableApps.com And Click “Download Now”.
If your not sure which one you want, I recommend Getting the Suite Lite Package. It gives you the Portable Apps Menu, along with some Basic programs that are almost completely necessary to have. The one I use the most, and you will to, is FireFox Portable.
If you are more advanced, get the Platform Only, and manually choose which you want later.
Once Downloaded, Install onto your USB Flash Drive. Now Click the New Icon it just put there for you and YOUR THERE! It should open Portable Apps. To open the menu, just click on the icon on your taskbar (the icons next to the time in the lower right corner of the screen)
To add more Programs, go to portable apps and click the downloads page. There instructions are pretty self explanatory. You just install each program into the “Portable Apps” Folder and the new program will show up in your menu.
BTW, This portable version of FireFox makes it so you can surf the net where ever, where ever, while being invisible (in a sense). it leaves nothing behind! No cookies, no History, no nothing! And it also can be used to get around some proxies and firewalls if you can figure out how
For U3 Drives:
You already should have a built in menu with some programs already available to you. If you want better programs, you can add as many as you want by going to their provided download center http://software.u3.com/softwarecentral.aspx?skip=1
Portable Apps On U3 Drives
Now say that you want to use the apps on www.portableapps.com
it wont let you right? WRONG you still can!
You CANNOT Add them to your menu though. Unless you get this utility some hacker made (i will post it later) But you can still run the programs on your drive.
All you do is just download the program you want from www.portableapps.com and run the installer, and tell it to install to your drive. And your done.
When you want to run the program, just open your drive up with “My computer” and double click the folder for that program, and there should be an Icon for that prog that you just installed. Just click it and it will run!
Well that sums up the Basics of it all. Sorry I couldn’t make it that detailed. I didn’t have enough time, but hey, you can always post a reply asking a question, or adding something. so yeah. I will probaly be editing this article a bit too. Well have fun with your new USB flash drive!
(also i have a lot of apps that aren’t in U3 Website or PortableApps.com and will be posting them in separate posts over time) So keep watch

AbiWord- Better, Faster, Stronger, Portable, and FREE
AbiWord
Ok, well I’ll admit that it might not be stronger or better but as far as I’m concerned it is. I want to start off with I dont use Microsoft Word anymore. I just dont. It takes forever to start it up, and alot of computers im working on doesn’t have it. Especially alot of public computers. So I found this program a while back, that not only is ALOT smaller in file size to MS Word, but also looks and feels like MSword without the lengthy start up time and it can work directly from a flashdrive. And theres one more thingy thats really great about it. Its open source, which means its completely free!
If your going to school (Highscool or College) then this is a must have. You just load it onto a flashdrive, and then no matter what computer your at, you will always have the program and the files with no installation or altering the host computer.
Ontop of that, it can open, and save in Word format, so you can still work on old documents from when you still used Word, or if you need to send it or print it or what ever you can save it as a Word document.
The only real difference I think there is, is that AbiWord does not allow you to set Paragraph Spacing, and Im not sure what that is, but I think its when you can set the Distance between two paragraphs, less or more than the standered “return” space. So nobody really uses that feature anyway.
So, major features are:
- Free (open source code)
- Import and Export other file formats including Word Documents and Open Office Documents
- Light and Portable (fits onto a flash drive or ipod)
- Does everything MS Word Does
So yeah, Here are some links to download it now. And by the way, its my favorite portable app, and my most used.
Download the Portable Version for your Flash Drive Here
Just trust me on this, this is a MUST HAVE PROGRAM!

Defragment your files Faster, Better
Defraggler
Defraggler is a program that i use as an alternative to the built in windows defrag tool. Defraggler lets you visually see individual fragmented files, shows you the location, and lets you defragment every thing, or select individual files.
One of my favorite things about this program is not only does it seem to do a better job than the built in windows tool, but it also is only One EXE that’s less that 1MB so you can place it on a flash drive and carry it anywhere.
The best thing about it is that its FREE! It supports vista also! here is a list of features from the original site: http://www.defraggler.com/features
So go download it now! http://www.defraggler.com/download

“I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” – Cover
I know this isn’t tech related, but oh well im gonna post it up anyways. Yesterday I played at a christmas special held at a local church, and I think it turned out ok.
I am the one of the left playing lead guitar. Theres a solo around 2:00 min in and Cory is the one that arranged it and is singing. The song by the way is originally played by Casting Crowns. Enjoy and let me know what you think.

Can’t Afford MS Office? Free Alternative
OpenOffice.org
I know how tough it is for students to come up with enough cash for Microsoft Office. Its required by schools and bussinesses alike, and all over the world, but for a pretty big price tag. Well I know of a solution.
There is a software package, that does almost everything that office does, and supports MS office’s formats, so you can edit already saved files, or save in the correct format for email or what ever it may be.
This package, is OpenOffice.org and is completely free. This open source software is very powerful. It looks a little scary but its good for enterprise level processing.
YouConvertIt- Convert any file Online
If your anything like me, you prob have a lot of files that you want converted, so I found this website about a year ago, that lets you convert almost any file to any format, from any format. You can also convert youtube videos from FLV straight to your desired format including mp4 and 3gp for your mobile devices.
Say that you have a file that needs to be converted? It doesn’t matter if its video, flv, mp3, wav, mpeg, mp4, 3gp, or even document files. It could even be different documents like word or PowerPoint.
If you really want to you can convert units of different measurements.
All you do is just browse for the file to be converted, enter your email, and then the format for the file to be converted to, and then within a few minuets you should have a email containing the download link.
You tube videos are even simpler. Just paste the youtube video URL instead of browsing for one.
So make life a little easier with this website! Enjoy.
